Heisman Trophy: Fournette, Others Snubbed by Heisman Committee?

Earlier this week we learned the Heisman Committee nominated Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffrey, and Deshaun Watson to be the three finalists for the Heisman Trophy. These decisions by the committee have led to questions regarding some major snubs. The NFL Mocks Staff reviewed some of the most notable snubs of College Football’s most prestigious award.

Sayre Bedinger: It’s got to be Keenan Reynolds of Navy. The guy has been quietly one of the best touchdown machines in college football history, and one of the most consistent players as well. He should have gotten an invite, for sure.

Brady Lunt: I have to agree with Sayre on this. While I think it was a long shot for Reynolds to win, he definitely deserved an invite. He has been a model of consistency throughout his collegiate career and been nothing short of a great player for Navy. His achievements have been way to under-the-radar.

Rodney Stokes: Leonard Fournette. It seems everybody was less than impressed when he struggled against Alabama in the ONLY game where he had less than 90 yards rushing. Had his performances been switched and he “struggled” early rather than late he would’ve easily been one of the finalists.

Shawn Spencer: Keenan Reynolds. He wasn’t going to win the award, but he should have at least received an invitation. The Heisman isn’t a career award, but Reynolds has done more than just score a lot of touchdowns. Navy is ranked in large part because of his abilities and leadership and could finish the year 11-2.

Eric Robinson: Pains me to say this as a Canes fan, but I think Dalvin Cook deserved a look at least. Almost 1,700 yards, producing 8 yards a carry with 18 TDs even as the focal point of the offense. Plus he torched the ACC champ and the SEC runner-up. Worth a look at least.

George Stockburger: There’s a couple of guys you have to highlight here. Leonard Fournette is the obvious one. The prime time game against Alabama killed him, but when you look at his game log, his performances are much more impressive than Christian McCaffrey’s. The touchdowns are a big thing to look at as well. Then again, Stanford is playing in a major bowl game and where’s LSU? Playing Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl. Dalvin Cook and Baker Mayfield are the another guys you have to highlight as snubs.

Perhaps situations like these will move the Heisman Committee to expand the final ballot to more than three players. Five players on the ballot would be completely acceptable and give voters more choice. For now, we will just have to wait and see the final results of the Heisman voting on Monday, December 14th.
