Mark Richt is now the head coach of the University of Miami Hurricanes. I never thought I’d be saying those words. As some of our long time readers know, I myself am a Georgia Bulldogs fan, so this has been very hard on me.

Coach Richt is the definition of a class act, always doing things the right way and turning these young football players into quality men. This firing was quite shocking to say the least.

In 15 years leading the Bulldogs between the hedges, he compiled a 145-51 win-loss record, pretty damn impressive if I do say so myself. That’s an average of 3.4 losses per year over 15 years. The big problem was winning “the big one” as we like to say. Never got to a national championship, even though he got close on a regular basis. He has nine 10+ win seasons under his belt, and was 9-5 in bowl games over his tenure in Athens.

As much as Georgia fans will miss him, I think I can speak for many of them when I say there is nothing but well wishes for him at Miami.

As many of you know, coach Richt has a history with Miami, having been a quarterback there under the legendary coach Howard Schnellenberger. He is from Boca Raton as well so he has many ties to the area, and that should help with recruiting. Look for many top recruits to follow his lead and head to South Florida in the next few months for sure.

Since the news of the firing, top rated quarterback Jacob Eason has already visited with Georiga rival, University of Florida Gators

On a personal note, as big a Georgia fan as I am, I will also be following the Hurricanes closely now as well. Coach Richt has always been a guy I’ve admired, especially as an aspiring coach myself. I’m looking forward to seeing how far he can take these Hurricanes in the upcoming years. With any luck the Canes will hold their coaches clinic again next summer so I can get to have a sit down with Coach Richt as a dream come true!

Good Luck Coach!
