Iowa Hawkeyes should jump into top 4 of CFB Playoff race
The Iowa Hawkeyes should see their ranking jump into the top four of the CFB playoff race after some help around the country Saturday afternoon…
With some help from Michigan State’s thrilling last second win over Ohio State and a poor performance by Notre Dame, the CFB selection committee will likely give the undefeated (11-0) Iowa Hawkeyes a boost into the top four of the CFB Playoff rankings heading into Friday’s game against Nebraska, the biggest of Iowa’ season so far — because it’s the next one.
The Hawkeyes are headed to the Big Ten championship game for the first time in school history. They have clinched the Big Ten West, so there will be no consequence there if they wind up dropping this game on the road against Nebraska, but to make the CFB Playoff, this is an absolutely critical matchup. Let’s take a look at how we got to this point.
Ohio State Loses
Here’s how it went down:
Former Michigan State star and Washington Redskins quarterback weighed in:
And for good measure:
So, that’s what went down as Ohio State lost to Michigan State 14-17, ending an incredibly long regular season winning streak and paving the way for Iowa to get into the top four, but let’s take a look at what else happened around the country…
Notre Dame Struggle
The Fighting Irish won a small battle against (now) 3-8 Boston College. They may have ultimately lost with star running back C.J. Prosise going down with a high ankle sprain. Yikes.
Joel Klatt also dropped some SERIOUS knowledge about how Notre Dame has an essential affiliation with the ACC, and have already essentially lost their division. Check this out for some more clarity into that argument.
It makes complete sense.
Therefore, the Iowa Hawkeyes will make their debut in the top four this week, likely along with Notre Dame still but you could possibly see Oklahoma in there as well despite beating TCU by just one point thanks to a failed two-point attempt at the end of the game.
Despite that it wasn’t all pretty defensively, Iowa’s 20-point win over Purdue was the most impressive in-conference win among teams realistically looking at making a bid to replace one of the top four teams in the CFB playoff race this week, and though Notre Dame’s five-turnover debacle against Boston College might not cost them a spot, we could see two new teams in the top four this week courtesy of
Keep your eyes here for updates as the CFB playoff poll will be updated early this week.
