Game Preview: Washington Huskies vs #12 Utah Utes

facebooktwitterreddit

On Saturday the Washington Huskies take on the Utah Utes in Seattle, WA. The Utes enjoyed a lot of early on success as they moved all the way into the top five of the polls but a shocking loss to USC had them tumble down a few spots. Regardless of their ranking this team is still a top 10 football team and the Huskies are going to have to give every ounce if they want to compete in this one. The Utes feature a top run game but Washington defensively is only allowing 3.2 yards per carry. Saturday’s game is going to come down to who’s going to win in the trenches and if Jake Browning can continue to flash excellence. Lets look at the key players:

  • Devontae Booker RB, Utah

Arguably the best running back in the PAC-12, Booker has accumulated 966 yards, nine touchdowns and is tied for a team high 32 receptions on the year. Booker is a solid back who is receiving some strong NFL attention. If he gets going early it could end up being a route for the Utes.

    Jake Browning QB, Washington

The freshman has played well but being a true freshman has it’s ups and downs. Regardless of what this team’s record is Browning has played great and is developing into the quarter back that Chris Petersen recruited. That being said this game can’t be won without Browning throwing it through the air and with a strong Utah defense he’s going to have his hands full.

Marcus Williams & Domonique Hatfield DB, Utah

Williams is enjoying a career year as he’s produced 4 interceptions this season and looks to continue his upward trend. With a true freshman throwing the ball I expect Williams to jump a pass or two and make an impact play in this game. Hatfield is another DB who has 3 interceptions this season and is getting recognition as one of the top cover corner backs in the country. This tandem has been trouble for opposing teams as they picked off Jared Goff 3 times.

    Prediction:

I think Utah escapes with a victory here, the Huskies will play well but they’ve had some trouble finishing off closer games. Browning will make a couple mistakes and lead a late charge but not enough to win this one. Utes win 34-31
