The Recruiting Trail: Washington Huskies
The recruiting season is never-ending in college football but often times we forget about it because all the attention is focused on Saturday’s. Through the week countless recruits pledge themselves to their new schools and unless your like me and receive notifications, you’re pretty much waiting until January to see who’ll be playing at your favorite school.
Recruiting is different because you don’t exactly get to know the players while they’re in high school. Even watching the national high school games it’s hard to get a read on players because most are pretty reserved and find themselves taking in the experience, which by all means they should be. It just doesn’t make for the type of news that you bust out every week. Still, I want to highlight the players and the teams so we can get a good look at what our future Saturday’s might look like.
This week I’ll be featuring my hometown Washington Huskies, a program that’s still working on consistency but putting together what looks to be a bright future.

Brandon Wellington
The Huskies have been keeping themselves busy since signing Brandon Wellington in August of last year. Wellington is ranked as a 4-star athlete coming out of Eastside Catholic High School in Bellevue, WA. At 6′ 215 pounds he’s a bruiser on both sides of the ball and as happy as the coaches in the Metro division are for Wellington I can only imagine they’ll be even happier when he’s gone. If you get a chance to check out his tape you’ll see what I’m talking about. While Wellington is a decent high school running back it’s clear that defense is his calling and where he’ll most likely play in college. A great addition for coach Petersen as he’s able to bring in one of the top players in the state (WA).
Camilo Eifler
Camilo Eifler is a rangy linebacker from Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, California. Eifler is another 4-star prospect that has head hunting ability like Wellington. Along with being great against the run Eifler has separated himself as also having great coverage skills which many linebackers often lack. His head football coach is former Washington Husky Napoleon Kaufman who I’m sure did plenty of recruiting himself for his Alma mater. Eifler comes in at 6’2 210 pounds so he’ll need to put on some weight but if he can maintain his quick first step and strong burst he may end up being the best player in this class.
Sean McGrew
A quick back that runs a 4.49, Mcgrew is a do it all player. He has the hands to lineup in the slot and the vision to play in the backfield. I expect McGrew to get a shot at some early special teams work as a kick and punt returner with his dynamic ability. The 5’7 170 pound back comes out of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. Although many people will give McGrew the Danny Woodhead comparison I think he’s a guy who can come in and be his own name. There aren’t a lot of negatives to his game and comes as a player that many should look forward to.
Washington Huskies
The Huskies so far have 13 commits, five of which are 4-star prospects. They missed out on the number 1 prospect in the state but made sure to grab three of the top five. As much talent as there is in other states it’s always important to keep a couple close to home and so far I think Chris Petersen has done well grabbing the best talent this state is offering. The Huskies have a big game against the Utah Utes this weekend and a win could get a few recruits thinking about the school on Lake Union.
