Adding to that is the fact that the Bears, for really the first time in years have a host of eyes on the payroll who know how to spot defensive talent. Head coach John Fox and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio have been around pro football since the 1980s. They know what good and bad football players look like.
Also, based on his first draft so does GM Ryan Pace. Amos and Goldman are starters as rookies and McPhee was his biggest free agent signing. Pace does have a defensive background as well, having played defensive end in college at Eastern Illinois.
