The simplest reason for an all-defense draft is the fact that the Bears so deficient in terms of talent.  Look across the roster right now and ask who honestly stands out as something more than a decent role player or intriguing building block?  Only Pernell McPhee will emerge from that.  Outside of him there is Eddie Goldman and Adrian Amos but little else.

They need more elite players and the best way to find them is by devoting more picks to the search.  Nine selections would certainly increase the odds in their favor.
