Big play: PSU QB Christian Hackenberg catches TD pass
Well Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg has found a nice bit of positive momentum here at the midway point of the college football season after a lot of scrutiny and criticism early on.
Hackenberg has been playing great football these last two weeks for the Nittany Lions and is making plays like this —
And this…
But he’s not only spreading the football around with his arm, he’s made a touchdown catch as well.
Yes, you read that right.
Thank you, internet, for immediately having a highlight of that play available.
Hackenberg is shredding the Illinois defense right now, completing 14-of-20 passes for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns, which you can watch up above.

Hackenberg’s 52 percent completion percentage on the season is pedestrian, but most people still believe he has a bright future in the NFL ahead. For starters, the offense he’s running at Penn State isn’t overly favorable to his skills but also the supporting cast at Penn State hasn’t been great since his freshman year when he had Allen Robinson as a safety valve.
The future is certainly bright for Hackenberg as he continues to develop, but he needed some positive tape in his remaining time at Penn State to show NFL scouts that the guy we all saw two seasons ago has not completely disappeared. That player appears to be coming around once again and this young QB is growing right before our very eyes.
