Brandon Doughty (Western Kentucky)

Traditional pocket passers may not be all the rage these days as teams fall in love with more mobile guys like Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson.  Yet the two guys who have had the most success in the league the past two decades are Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, not exactly known for their 40-yard dash times.

What are they known for?  High intelligence, good decision-making and accurate passing.  Those are all qualities that Western Kentucky quarterback Brandon Doughty has in abundance and it’s why he’s tearing up college football this season, even to the point of Heisman consideration.

"“Western Kentucky head coach Jeff Brohm was the quarterbacks coach at Florida Atlantic during Doughty’s senior year and scouted several of his high school games. He remembers seeing a skinny kid without much speed or athleticism. Still, he ranked Doughty on the top line with then-prospects Blake Bortles and Trevor Siemian as the Owls’ top recruiting targets. Bortles is now starting for the Jacksonville Jaguars, while Siemian is on Denver’s roster.”"

At 6’3″ he has the size and doesn’t lack for confidence, believing his experience in multiple offenses erases the idea he’s just another system guy.  Those are all qualities teams can work with.  He’ll need polishing of course, but there have been less able quarterbacks who have succeeded in the NFL.
