With only one game between ranked teams, this weekend is shaping up to be a pretty basic College Football weekend unlike last week. In this weeks NFL Draft Scouting Roundup I will be taking a look at the games I will be watching this weekend, my Karl Joseph scouting report, my top five draft eligible running back prospects and some final scouting thoughts.

Games to Watch for Week 8

  • #20 California vs UCLA: This game should be one of the more higher scoring affairs we will see this weekend. My number one prospect QB Jared Goff goes against a depleted UCLA secondary and should post some gaudy numbers tonight along with his teammate WR Kenny Lawler. UCLA is going to need to keep up with Cal’s scoring so that means we should see a lot of action from true freshman QB Josh Rosen who scouts are enamored about.
  • #1 Ohio State vs Rutgers: Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett gets his first start of the season after Ohio State benched QB Cardale Jones. The Buckeyes offense has been tremendously more efficient with Barrett than Jones. A match up I will be watching this game is Rutgers WR Leonte Carroo vs Ohio State CB Eli Apple. Carroo is one of the best college WRs nobody is talking about and Eli Apple is my fourth ranked CB who has shut down cornerback potential. Keep an eye out for Rutgers DE Kemoko Turay who is a physical freak standing at 6’6 240 lbs as a red shirt sophomore. He could potentially enter the draft this year and draw serious early round interest as a pass rusher. Watching him against a talented Ohio State team should give us a real look at where he is in his development.
  • Tennessee vs #8 Alabama: Alabama seems to be back at its regular speed but this game could be closer then some assume. I will be watching more of the Tennessee prospects then the Alabama prospects. CB Cameron Sutton is Tennessee’s best draft eligible prospect and is the third rated CB on my board. QB Josh Dobbs who is a potential early entrant this year in the NFL draft will get another test after having his best game of the year against a top notch Georgia defense. If Dobbs can have a great game against Alabama more people will be talking about Dobbs entering the NFL Draft this year. Alabama’s elite defensive line of A’Shawn Robinson, Jerran Reed and Jonathan Allen will need to get pressure on Dobbs and force him into tough situations.
