Iowa RB Jordan Canzeri in walking boot, Akrum Wadley has 4 TDs
Iowa Hawkeyes running back Jordan Canzeri left today’s game against Northwestern with a left leg injury, and emerged from the locker room with a walking boot.
Hopefully the injury isn’t season-ending, but Canzeri appeared to be in a great deal of pain as he walked off the field with the help of two trainers, not putting an ounce of pressure on his injured leg.
Canzeri was the Big Ten offensive player of the week last week with an absolute monster performance against Illinois, and his loss seemed one that the Hawkeyes might not be able to overcome as the run game was a bit stale early on, but they found a groove in a big way. Akrum Wadley, a sophomore from Newark, NJ, has eclipsed 100 yards rushing easily since Canzeri went down and has four touchdowns against a Northwestern defense that has a reputation as one of the best in the country so far this season. Wadley is a smaller back, but he’s getting humongous running lanes thanks to Iowa’s size up front and fantastic blocking from the fullbacks, tight ends, and receivers. This is the kind of impact we’ve seen so far from Wadley, who is the latest hot hand in the Iowa backfield, which seems to be constantly in a state of change due to injury.
As of the time of this writing, Wadley has four rushing touchdowns. Since I’m writing, I’ve already had to change that number from 3 to 4, so don’t be shocked if it’s out-dated sooner rather than later. Wadley has come in with some excellent running back play and big play speed. Here are some more highlights.
Have a day, Akrum Wadley.
