#2:  Running In Place

  • Finish between 4-12 and 7-9
  • Collect pick between #5 and #13

Best Projected Option:  Christian Hackenberg (Penn State)

This speaks to the idea that the Bears won’t be much worse or better than they were last season when they finished 5-11.  That should put them right around the #7 area where they picked back in April but as we all know, positioning fluctuates from year to year.  So suffice to say they will pick somewhere in the top 13 but outside the top 5.

Christian Hackenberg is easily the most polarizing prospect in this class.  Based on pure ability, the kid looks like an NFL starter, hands down.  He has great size, stands tall in the pocket, plenty of arm and is willing to take the hits.  Unfortunately he’s taking too many of them.  Penn State has not done a good job at all building a strong offense around him, and it’s stunting his growth.

Even so, scouts aren’t holding that against him too much.  If he can just survive the season with halfway decent numbers, he should still be a top 15 pick.
