2016 NFL Draft: Biggest Defensive Sleepers By Position
By Erik Lambert
Corn Elder (CB, Miami)
Long a hotbed of NFL talent, the Miami Hurricanes always field one or two surprises each year. Lately they’ve been coming from the defensive secondary. Another one emerging is cornerback Corn Elder. Most will point right away to his 5’10” frame and put a cap on how far he can rise in the draft but history shows size doesn’t matter if a kid can play.
The GIF above shows some good things about him right off the bat. Even though he’s in off-coverage, he’s tracking the ball from the beginning and rather than just tackling the receiver, which is the textbook maneuver, he takes it above and beyond by perfectly timing his to knock the ball from the receivers’ hands to prevent the completion.
He’s a tough player who doesn’t mind playing physical press coverage and shows the hips and fluidity to mirror receivers. If coaches can get past the size limitations, they may find a quality pass defender in Elder.
