2016 NFL Draft: Biggest Defensive Sleepers By Position
By Erik Lambert
The offensive edition is in the books, so now the time has come to pinpoint some possible defensive sleepers that could emerge from the 2016 NFL draft. There are plenty of intriguing names from pass rushers to cover men and hard-hitting safeties but who are the ones destined to sneak under the radar? Here is a rundown of names that aren’t getting much credit now, but should as April draws ever closer.
Bronson Kaufusi (DE, BYU)
Due to commitments to the Mormon church, the development of Bronson Kaufusi was delayed, which is a big reason why his stock is somewhat low at the moment. Based on physical ability though, this kid looks like another Ezekiel Ansah. He’s big and long enough for defensive end but retains enough athleticism, quickness and awareness for outside linebacker.
He’s shown he can not only rush well but do so from multiple angles, making him far more versatile. When he uses his hands and long arms properly, it’s very difficult for blockers to stop him. The more he cuts down on hesitation, the better he gets. As the GIF above shows, when he gets his legs churning and the motor doesn’t stop, the quarterback is in trouble.
It’s all about development.
