TCU WR Josh Doctson has incredible performance vs. Texas Tech
TCU wide receiver Josh Doctson came into this season as one of the NFL Draft community’s most beloved college football players, and he did nothing to diminish that love on Saturday afternoon against Texas Tech.
In a game that was attended by our own Jonah Tuls, who I’m sure will have some additional thoughts on this performance, we saw virtually no defense but some wild offense in one of the most thrilling college football games of the season. Going into this game, Doctson had 17 catches with three touchdowns. He doubled those numbers in one shot.
Against Texas Tech, Doctson racked up 18 catches for 267 yards and another three touchdowns. This was after his ‘breakout’ game this season in which he caught five passes for 171 yards and a pair of scores against SMU last week.
We’ve now seen perhaps the best of Doctson, but he is only going to get better, which is the scary part. He might not put up another game like this statistically, but he’s a dominant player with great size and phenomenal hands, and he might have just put himself on the map as the best draft-eligible receiver in college football.
Here’s what he did on the play with perhaps the best defense played all game…
"Leave it to Boykin and Doctson! The combo creates this 52-yard TD score on 3rd & 11. Frogs back on top. http://t.co/zfcNYszkMw— Big 12 Conference (@Big12Conference) September 26, 2015"
Here’s another catch where the level of difficulty is NFL caliber, and Doctson makes it look routine:
The irony of this performance and this game is that it came down to a 4th down play in which the pass from Trevone Boykin went off the hands of Doctson and into the waiting hands of Aaron Green. He didn’t come down with the school record breaking 19th catch, but he got a hand on it.
This was a masterful performance from Doctson, one that will be remembered for a long, long time.
