Being a typical SEC powerhouse, everybody expected to see Georgia in the mix of teams capable of making a run at the NCAA playoffs.  How would they do it?  Like always.  Run the football and play great defense.  That was the case through the first two games of the season as the Bulldogs racked up 243 and 286 yards respectively on the ground and allowed 28 points total.

What nobody expected, and perhaps what makes the next few months very interesting is the stunning emergence of quarterback Greyson Lambert.  Through those first two games he was basically a bystander, completing 19-of-33 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns.  Then the nation got an eyeful of what the program has been keeping under wraps when the 6’5″ junior from Jesup executed an almost perfect performance.

He connected on 24-of-25 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns while extending his streak of no interceptions to three games in a 52-20 romp of SEC rival South Carolina.

Most remembered him coming into the season as a journeyman quarterback fresh off an underwhelming run at Virginia.  Still, the 6’5″ kid seems to have taken to the offense of new coordinator Brian Schottenheimer very well, and that’s a great thing because Schottenheimer runs a system that had success in the NFL.

Lambert can be efficient, has plenty of size, a good arm and flashed touch on several of his passes.  Give him a ground game and he showed against the Gamecocks that he can be merciless in his execution.  It’s still early but this kid may be setting himself up to become one of the bigger surprises heading towards the 2016 NFL draft.
