Cassanova McKinzy (ILB – Auburn) vs. LSU

With Carl Lawson’s status in question, Cassanova McKinzy must continue to raise his level of play in order for Auburn to beat LSU. Throughout his career McKinzy has been very good against the run, but slowing down Leonard Fournette won’t be easy.

Fournette ran for just 42 yards on 10 carries against Auburn as a freshman, but he’s expected to have a much larger role this time around as Kenny Hilliard and Terrence Magee aren’t around to cut into his playing time. Auburn defensive tackle Montravious Adams and outside linebacker Kris Frost will play key roles in slowing down the LSU ground game, but McKinzy is the most productive member of Auburn’s front seven. Through two games he has 19 tackles and four tackles for a loss.

If anyone in the SEC is going to stop Fournette one-on-one, McKinzy may be the guy. He’s an extremely reliable and physical tackler who has shown improved awareness under new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.

Inside linebackers aren’t typically high draft picks. In the 2015 draft for example, only Stephone Anthony of the New Orleans Saints was selected in the first round and just four inside linebackers were selected on Days 1 and 2 combined. With a solid performance against LSU and continued success throughout the season, McKinzy should be in that group in 2016.
