With six players dismissed and one suspended, Rutgers football program has been in the middle of great public controversy regarding the handling of these players and the actions of Flood. As recourse for this issue, namely the intervention of a student’s academic standing, embattled Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood has been suspended by the university for three games.

Those three games will be this Saturday’s prime time match-up at Penn State, a home game versus Kansas and a critical divisional showdown with a ranked Michigan State squad.

Rutgers University President Dr. Robert Barchi released a statement and officially announced Flood’s suspension for the next three games:

"As some of you may be aware, the University has been reviewing an allegation that the Head Football Coach at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, Kyle Flood, circumvented established policies and procedures in contacting a faculty member to discuss the academic standing of a student-athlete.Coach Flood used his personal email to contact the faculty member and had an in-person meeting with the faculty member regarding the academic standing of a member of the football team. The multiple email contacts came both before and after the meetingFor his violations of University policy, I have suspended Coach Flood for three consecutive games of inter-collegiate competition effective immediately. I also have imposed a fine of $50,000."

Most notably among those being disciplined is wide receiver Leonte Carroo, who’s one of the best receivers in the Big 10. Carroo has been suspended for allegedly assaulting a woman following a Rutgers loss. His availability for the season is still in question pending a legal investigation.

The other six players who have been disciplined have been connected to events including, but not limited to, burglary and assault. Flood’s suspension is being directly linked to the academic intervention of one of his athletes.
