Brandon Marshall and 7th round pick to New York Jets for 5th round pick

Money and locker room issues compelled Pace to take action on wide receiver Brandon Marshall by sending him to the Jets.  It didn’t gain him an extra pick but it did give the Bears a pick in each of the first six rounds rather than no 5th round choice before the deal.

So far the deal is looking somewhat awkward.  Marshall has played well thus far for his new team, while Chicago has suffered a string of injuries at wide receiver, magnifying his absence.  However, the pick received for him has turned into a starter for their defense (Adrian Amos).

OG Ryan Groy to New England Patriots for LB Matthew Wells

This was a straight player exchange with no picks involved.  The Bears needed depth at inside linebacker and help on special teams, which Wells offered.  New England needed another body for their thin offensive line.

Both players have since been cut.
