NFL Trade Machine: Ka’Deem Carey To Dallas

facebooktwitterreddit

The Dallas Cowboys know their 2015 season hinges on two key factors:  their defense playing better and their running game not missing a beat despite the loss of Pro Bowl running back DeMarco Murray.  That second part seems to be proving a greater challenge than they hoped.  While Joseph Randle looks like a solid option moving forward, the rest of the depth chart can be called into question.

Veteran free agent Darren McFadden hasn’t looked much better than he did during the past three rough seasons he had in Oakland, never mind his ongoing injury problems.  Beyond him things don’t get much better.  As a team the Cowboys are averaging 3.8 yards per carry for the preseason and just 86 yards per game.  That isn’t going to cut it if they want to repeat as division champs.

Perhaps it’s time to think about finding some help from elsewhere, maybe via NFL trade if the price isn’t too steep.  One name they should consider is Ka’Deem Carey.  A 4th round pick in 2014, the former Arizona standout has found himself in a crowded backfield with the Chicago Bears this preseason.  Despite averaging 4.1 yards per carry dating back to last season and having good versatility, he finds himself in a battle just to make the roster with guys like Matt Forte, Jacquizz Rodgers and Jeremy Langford ahead of him.

Chicago has already done a few trades this years, including a straight player swap when they sent guard Ryan Groy to New England for linebacker Matthew Wells.  This may be an advantage for Dallas.  Instead of offering a draft pick, they could offer another player in exchange.

One name that comes to mind is Devin Street.  The second-year wide receiver, like Carey is trapped on a crowded depth chart.  On the other hand, the Bears are badly banged up at the position with all four of their top pass targets laid up with injuries.  Street would give them some sorely needed depth and in return he would get a chance to compete for playing time.

It’s a mutually beneficial deal provided both sides are open to it.
