USC’s Sarkisian Apologizes After Profane Video Released
USC Head Coach Steve Sarkisian released a public apology after a profanity ridden video was released to media sources. Sarkisian was speaking at the universities “Salute to Troy” event, where he was clearly intoxicated and “slurring his words.” This event was considered “private” for boosters, alumni and players, but in this day and age, the word private means little to nothing.
The video is available on various social media sites, but was opted not to be shared on this site.
"“I sincerely apologize to my players and staff and to our fans for my behavior and my inappropriate language at our kickoff event Saturday night. I have a responsibility to all of them and I let them down. Pat Haden talked to me after the event about my actions and I assured him this will not happen again.”"
Athletic Director Pat Haden also released his own press release after Sarkisian’s episode, assuring fans that the issue will be dealt with accordingly:
"“I met with Coach Sarkisian and I expressed my disappointment in the way he represented himself and the University at our Salute To Troy event. While the details of our conversation will remain between us, I am confident he heard my message loud and clear.”"
During the Salute to Troy event, Sarkisian dropped several f-bombs and called out several PAC-12 schools by proclaiming “they all suck”. Sarkisian had to be removed from the stage and was seen with AD Pat Haden immediately after the rant.
Several veteran players expressed their embarrassment and disappointment in their coach to ESPN, who will hold a press conference on Tuesday. Many college football analysts are calling for harsh punishment for Sarkisian, including various suspensions. Sarkisian is entering his second year as the head coach of USC after posting a 9-4 record in his first season. The team was rated #10 in the preseason coaches poll and #8 in the AP preseason poll.
