Fantasy Football: Waiver Wire Watch List

While it’s still the preseason, it’s never too early to keep you eyes on the free agents and waiver wire. The Waiver Wire Watch is designed to help you find those diamonds in the rough, while also showing you not to grab.

Alfred Blue: Houston RB

Percentage of ESPN Leagues Available: 45.4%

Ever since Arian Foster has gone down with a groin injury, Blue has become a hot fantasy football commodity. Since Foster’s injury, Blue has been added in 54.6% of ESPN standard fantasy leagues. That’s the biggest player grab we’ve seen so far, rivaling a measly 8.6% add on Jonas Gray.

Looking towards week one, Blue is coming into the perfect situation to have a solid game. Going against the Kansas City Chiefs, Blue will have lots of room to run against last seasons 26th ranked rushing defense. Add onto that Dontari Poe going on the PUP list and the lack of ILB depth, Blue is due for a big game week one.

Darren Sproles: Philadelphia RB

Percentage of ESPN Leagues Available: 60%

Sproles is getting even more opportunities to score, now getting reps in the slot during training camp. Owned in 40% of leagues, the speedy receiver is going up against Atlanta’s horrid defense. Atlanta’s passing and rushing defense was ranked 31st and 30th respectively. Sproles is getting more views at the receiver position and will get those extra kick/punt return points when he takes the field with special teams. A smart FLEX add for any fantasy team looking for a home run.

Jameis Winston: Tampa Bay QB

Percentage of ESPN Leagues Available: 61%

Famous Jameis will make his NFL debut against the Titans, who finished 2014 with the 26th ranked passing defense. Looking past week one, he faces 27th ranked New Orleans Saints secondary. If you quarterback goes down with a training camp injury or you took Brady, Winston is a nice interim starter.

Pass on the Wire

Anquan Boldin: San Francisco WR

Percentage of ESPN Leagues Available: 47%

The entire 49ers team is a question mark, but notably the offensive line. Colin Kaepernick will have a tough time getting those deep passes to Boldin, especially against their week one opponent Minnesota.

Joe Flacco: Baltimore QB

Percentage of ESPN Leagues Available: 66%

Flacco’s biggest knock this week will be the fact he’s facing the Broncos. Denver comes into the season with the 4th ranked secondary, which will hinder Flacco’s chances of getting the ball down the field.
