Houston Texans: Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer stand deadlocked
It seems fitting that two former Tom Brady backups are trying to emerge from that immense shadow on the same team. The Houston Texans believe one of them is going to solve their problems at quarterback since the demise of Matt Schaub. Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett bring lots to the table from experience to smarts and more than a little talent.
It’s that similarity that is making the decision between them much more complicated for head coach Bill O’Brien and his staff. All signs thus far in training camp indicate neither Hoyer nor Mallett have gained separation with on-field performance. Each has had their moments, both up and down.
More and more this seems like a battle that will go down to the wire in preseason.
