NFL Fantasy Football: Le’Veon Bell News Brings Joy
By Erik Lambert
No position has a greater influence on NFL fantasy football than running backs. The best ones are almost always drafted first and contributors always seem to come out of nowhere, making them great waiver wire options as well. So one can imagine leagues and owners were less than enthused when it was announced Pittsburgh Steelers starter Le’Veon Bell would be suspended by the league for the first three games.
After all he was the eighth-most productive fantasy player in 2014, posting 287.50 points thanks to his 1,361 yards rushing, 854 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns. There was no debating he would be one of the top choices in the draft come this season, but not if he wouldn’t be available for almost a full month.
So it was most welcome news when ESPN reported that Bell and the NFL were in negotiations to reach a settlement that would drop his suspension from three to two or possibly one game.
This drastically alters the landscape of ahead of fantasy drafts and makes more than a few owners happy since it deepens what should already be a rich pool of runners in 2015. The only question then will be can Bell stay healthy and will he be ready once he’s back?
Perhaps.
