Tight End
Dennis Pitta (Baltimore Ravens)
The drafting of Maxx Williams by the Baltimore Ravens has all but ended the Dennis Pitta era. Or has it? It’s noted the veteran tight end has seen two seasons end with hip injuries, but when healthy he has shown he’s still the same productive player he’s always been.
At age 30 he should still have juice left in the tank and though he’s too risky to make a starter, waiver wire snoopers should really watch carefully to see if he makes it through the first few weeks of the season without incident. Joe Flacco has shown he has a natural chemistry with Pitta, and new offensive coordinator Marc Trestman loves using tight ends.
Ben Watson (New Orleans Saints)
Jimmy Graham is gone, and with him the favorite target of Drew Brees. There is no doubting the gaping hole the New Orleans Saints have at tight end, and who is going to fill it? So far they haven’t been able to add anybody of note. That means the 2015 season falls into the hands of Ben Watson.
The veteran had some pretty solid seasons over a long career and functioned well as the #2 guy behind Graham. Whether he can hold up at age 34 as the primary option is a good question. Regardless, fantasy owners should consider adding him by default because he’s sure to see action, at least early on.
