Roster Battles To Watch
MIA: Lamar Miller vs. Jay Ajayi
His blazing speed is hard to miss, which is why Lamar Miller averaged over five yards per carry last season, but his lack of power makes it difficult for the Dolphins to justify making him their primary running back. That is why many eyes are on rookie 5th round pick Jay Ajayi.
Tabbed as a Day 2 selection before falling in the draft, Ajayi showed at Boise State much more of the classic running back style: power, tough, quick feet and good vision. If his body is healthy he has a chance to prove he can be the bell cow the Dolphins have needed.
CHI: Ryan Mundy vs. Adrian Amos
Safety has continued to haunt the Chicago Bears defense for years. The team signed Antrel Rolle to help fix that problem but he can only lock down one spot. So now the question is who will play next to him?
Ryan Mundy is more experienced and knows Rolle from their days playing together in New York. At the same time, a small buzz has continued to build for rookie Adrian Amos. Unlike Mundy, he boasts the skill set of range, speed and ball skills needed from a free safety. So it will become a case of veteran savvy vs. youthful talent.
