Most people love a good mystery, even in pro sports.  Few will prove more captivating and rich with promise than what the St. Louis Rams can expect from quarterback Nick Foles.  Experts believe the Rams have a roster with enough talent offensively and defensively to reach the playoffs.  The one position that has held them back is quarterback.

Sam Bradford hasn’t been able to stay healthy and guys like Sean Hill and Austin Davis failed have a significant enough impact.  Foles is 26-years old, boasts plenty of natural talent and reached the Pro Bowl in 2013.  Last season ended abruptly for him due to a broken collarbone, but all signs point to him being ready for 2015.

2014 Production:

  • 2,163 yards passing (8 games)
  • 68 yards rushing
  • 13 touchdowns
  • 10 interceptions
  • 119.32 fantasy points

Jeff Fisher and the Rams know about Foles’ health concerns, which is why it should be expected they will commit to a steady dose of running the football.  That was evident when they drafted Todd Gurley in the 1st round, this a year after selecting Tre Mason in the 2nd.  St. Louis has a talent-laden backfield and spent several more picks to help improve the offensive line.  They are clearly doing everything within their power to keep Foles upright and healthy.

Add in a strong mix of size and speed at wide receiver with guys like Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, Brian Quick and Stedman Bailey, nevermind tight end Jared Cook and the options are aplenty.  The bottom line is Foles will be one of those boom-or-bust options for NFL fantasy football owners this season.  Rust and a new offensive system could hinder him most of the year, but sheer talent around him and a defense that will give him extra opportunities may send it the other way as well.
