Early NFL Draft Scouting: WR Laquon Treadwell, Ole Miss
NFL fans have been spoiled by the amount of rookie talent the wide receiver position has provided over the past few seasons and in 2016 one receiver should keep that trend going. His name is Laquon Treadwell and he is the best WR prospect in the 2016 draft class. I have been following Treadwell since he was a senior in high school and have watched every game he has played in at his time at Ole Miss and he is one of the most gifted wide outs I have ever watched.

Treadwell is a 6’3 210 pound beast on the outside with a skill set that is advanced for his age. Treadwell currently is only 19 years old and already is one of the top wide receivers in the country. In 2014 Treadwell recorded 48 catches for 632 yard and five touchdowns, his numbers really don’t stand out but if you watched any Ole Miss football last year you will know he had one of the worst quarterbacks in all of college football throwing to him.
He suffered a gruesome injury in a game against Auburn. Treadwell broke his fibula and dislocated his ankle which caused him to miss the remainder of the season. With a new QB at Ole Miss, Treadwell should flourish and have a monster season. Let’s take a look at what makes Laquon Treadwell so special.
Observations
Treadwell is as physically gifted of a wide receiver in all of college football. He can do it all on the field and he makes it look so effortless when doing it. He uses his size to his advantage by overwhelming SEC cornerbacks and he makes it look so natural.- He has similar skill sets to Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant. Both are ferocious with the ball in their hands and are tough to bring down with just one defender. Like Bryant, Treadwell can out jump cornerbacks or out run them. Both are identical in size at 6’2 and around 220 pounds.
- Treadwell is only 19 years old, yes only 19 and already is one of the top players at his position in the country. He has so much time to even get better which is hard to believe. If he enters next year he’ll be drafted at age 20. He is so advanced beyond his years and he will make an immediate impact in the NFL whenever he enters.
- He’s a legit play maker any time the ball is in his hands whether it’s on screens, intermediate routes or on deep balls. At the 5:50 mark in the draftbreakdown video above, Ole Miss QB Bo Wallace knows all he has to do is throw the ball up and Treadwell will come down with it.
- Will fully recover from his serious injury
- Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze told reporters that “it’s time to turn Laquon Treadwell loose”. Expect a monster of a year from the junior wide receiver.
Overall
With a new quarterback at Ole Miss and something to prove, LaQuon Treadwell should flat out dominate this season in a tough SEC conference. Other then maybe Vernon Hargreaves III from Florida, no cornerback will be able to cover him next season. Treadwell should be able to win SEC Comeback Player of the Year and has a serious chance of being name SEC Offensive Player of the Year.
It’s way to early in the scouting process but I view Treadwell as the number one receiver in the class of 2016 and a top ten pick if he enters.
