He is one of the best young pass rushers going in the league and is the unquestioned best player on his team. For that reason Von Miller should expect a huge payday. The question is who it will come from in 2016 NFL free agency.
- Age: 26
- 225 tackles
- 49 sacks
- 12 forced fumbles
- 3x Pro Bowler
Though the news recently regarding Miller is of the comical variety, the fact remains that the Denver Broncos are going to have to address his contract sooner than later if they don’t want to risk things sinking into a standoff.
Or do they? Keep in mind the Broncos have done a lot over the past two season to supplement their pass rush around Miller. First, they added veteran DeMarcus Ware on the other side and more recently picked up Shane Ray as their 1st round pick in the draft. It is that move that should raise some eyebrows. Sure, Ray could be viewed as an eventual replacement for Ware, who is progressing into his mid-30s but it also can be viewed as an insurance policy in case Miller decided to pushed for a maximum payday.
At this stage he has an argument with 14 sacks and a third Pro Bowl nod in 2014. Another such performance would compel the Broncos to fork over a deal similar to what J.J. Watt received from Houston (six years, $100 million). Regardless of importance, that will drive a serious stake into an already tight salary cap.
Likeliest Outcome: Franchise Tag
