College Football Predictions: Staff Debates Heisman Sleepers
Every College Football season a Heisman dark horse emerges mid season and takes college football by storm. The NFL Mocks staff debated some of their favorite Heisman sleepers for this upcoming season. Let’s take a look at what they had to say, don’t be afraid to write in the comments below about your Heisman dark horse.
Matthew Holowiak: Everett Golson, QB, Florida State
Not sure if this counts as a sleeper but Everett Golson could make a run at it. Already talented at Notre Dame with less talent, he should excel even more at Florida State as they attempt to make another title run. Could end up with some of the highest efficiency numbers in the nation.
Joe Wedra: Gunner Kiel, QB, Cincinnati
I’m sticking with my guy in Gunner Kiel here. His arm is superb, and he has the skills to put up massive numbers this season. Don’t look now, but he could become the quarterback of the year once the season is all said and done.

Tyler Morales: Jeremy Johnson, QB, Auburn
Jeremy Johnson could take over the SEC just like Cam Newton did during his one year at Auburn. Johnson is a dual threat quarterback who stands at a tall 6’5 and weighs in at 240 lbs. Johnson has a strong arm like Cam Newton but is a better passer at this point in his career than Newton was. Johnson could put up some gaudy numbers in Gus Malzahn’s offense. Keep an eye on Johnson from week one, this guy could be special.
Jonah Tuls: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
You want a Heisman sleeper candidate? Look no further than Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU. He was one of the best true freshman to ever play for LSU last year and is poised to be set up for a huge season this year. As their expected bell cow on offense this year, I fully expect Fournette to be given the opportunity to put up big numbers. A running back has not won the Heisman trophy since 2009, but I definitely wouldn’t count out the young, up and coming star in Leonard Fournette.
