As part of our growing college football coverage, I will be sharing some of my personal scouting notes on Big 10 prospects throughout the football offseason. I hope this gives fans a chance to see what we see when we’re scouting players, and gives you an opportunity to join in.

Today I will be sharing my notes on some of the big-time quarterback prospects in the Big 10: Christian Hackenberg, Cardale Jones, and Connor Cook. These are the exact words out of my personal scouting note-book I take when I watch tape on each of these players. Hope you enjoy!

    • Stays focused in the pocket under pressure – 5:25 in tape
    • Doesn’t lead receivers – 7:25 in tape
    • Does not read the field
    • Late first round pick, early second
    • Future San Diego Charger?

    Cardale Jones – Ohio State

    • 6’5, great height
    • GAME WATCHED – OREGON, 2014
    • Will he win the starting job?
    • Stands well in the pocket under pressure
    • Mobile and uses it
    • Fights for yards consistently
    • Hard to bring down as a runner
    • Great arm strength
    • Decent accuracy
    • Scans the field, unlike most college quarterbacks
    • Needs to lead receivers more
    • Bad social media history

    Christian Hackenberg – Penn State

    • 6’4, great height
    • GAME WATCHED – RUTGERS
    • Stands well in the pocket, statue like
    • Stares down receivers too much
    • Mobile, but awkward
    • Good arm strength
    • Plays better in a pro style offense
    • Did better his freshman year with a stronger offensive line, Bill O’Brien offense
    • Accurate
    • Takes small back steps out of the snap
    • Smart decision maker
    • Elusive when needed
    • Throw on the run improving
    • Doesn’t give up when wrapped up by defenders – Rutgers 2014
    • Protects ball well
    • Lead team to multiple come-from-behind wins in his career
    • Future Houston Texan?
