Shocked, simply just shocked. That was my initial reaction to the Todd Gurley draft selection by the Rams with the tenth pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Not in a bad way, but in an excited way. With the Rams taking Gurley, this team is clearly ready to win some games. The Rams have been in rebuild for a while, and the rebuild seems to be coming to a close. They just got a good young quarterback, they could use a receiver still, but now they have a fleet of running backs, spearheaded by one of my favorite players in the country Todd Gurley of Georgia.
This pick in retrospect makes so much sense. He will take some pressure off the pass game because every team will have to game plan for him. It will open up more passing lanes and make life a little easier for those offensive lineman.
The running back committee now is going to be Todd Gurley, Tre Mason, Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham. That right there is just sick. If they can add a wide receiver round two then that offense will be loaded with weapons. Todd Gurley has the makings to be a pro bowl running back right out of the gates, assuming he is healthy out of the gates. At a powerful 230 pounds, speed of a kick returner, and agility to cut on a dime, even Seattle is going to have their hands full.
Through his career at Georgia, he averaged 6.4 yards per carry, had two kick return touchdowns, and was simply just a terror to anyone who faced him. Todd Gurley rushed for nearly 3,300 yards and had 36 rushing touchdowns over his 3 year career at Georgia before having his time cut short by injury. As a Georgia fan myself, I’ve seen him play quite a bit over the years, and I know exactly what he is capable of. NFL defenses, watch out!
