Staff Notes
Joe Wedra (@JoeWedra): Straight from the notebook: Very, very raw. Has a knack for tackling. Big, strong guy. Coverage technical flaws. Only one year of football is a major plus. Impressive for that, but there’s a risk projecting him, does he have elite ability? 4th round with major potential. Could go higher.
Sayre Bedinger (@SayreBedinger): With his greatest traits being ball skills, man-to-man coverage (he is really strong in that area already), and size, I think Rollins might have the highest upside of any cover corner in this year’s draft. He is a bit raw, but that doesn’t equate to a lack of talent and his development is well ahead of schedule. He may have played basketball for the majority of his college career, but he’s a natural football player who looks like a veteran collegiate defensive back in coverage, who plays up near the line and makes every throw and catch difficult for the opposing team.
Overall Synopsis
In conclusion, Quinten Rollins is one of the biggest boom/bust prospects with plenty of potential, but also extremely inexperienced and raw. If drafted by the right team, I think he can develop into a Pro Bowl cornerback because of the unreal ball skills he possesses. The coverage skills and instincts really impressed me as a scout because he has only played one year of collegiate football. The long speed does concern me, but he has enough athleticism to get by. In my opinion is he is a sure-fire top 50 player with the dark horse ability to inch up into that late first round consideration.
