One prospect who had the tape to prove he was a viable 2015 NFL Draft prospect is Denzel Perryman, the linebacker from Miami who spend much of his collegiate career locking down the middle of the Hurricanes’ defense.
Despite many calling for him to declare in 2014, Perryman finished his time in college to establish himself as arguably the best inside linebacker in the 2015 class.
Below, you’ll find a quick scouting report as well as broadcast tape from our great friends at Draft Breakdown. On the second slide, don’t miss our NFL Mocks staff notes.
STRENGTHS
Perryman rose up boards largely in part to his role at Miami. He’s a fiery leadership type who uses his football knowledge to his advantage.
While boasting the strength to be an impressive hard-hitter, Perryman flies around the field to make plays all over. He’s an electric all-around defender who would give an NFL team a plug-and-play inside linebacker.
WEAKNESSES
Much of Perryman’s downfalls come from his lack of ability to get through blocks.
He’s coachable in this area, but he’ll have to learn to match the maulers he’ll be facing in the NFL.
Very rarely do you see it, but he’s been exposed in the open field at times. NFL teams will have to gague how limited he’ll have to be. It shouldn’t be a terrible transition for the seemingly “veteran” linebacker, but it’s something to watch nonetheless.
DRAFT STOCK
Don’t be fooled, NFL teams have taken notice of what Perryman can do once he hits the field. He matches the stereotype of what an NFL inside linebacker should bring to the table.
He and his Miami teammates did big things on tape in 2014. No matter the situation, don’t expect this kid to last much longer than the 3rd round.
