Dallas Cowboys NFL Draft Keys: Help On Offense
By Joe Wedra
To win the NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys need to cash in on three crucial “keys to succeed”.
I’ve put together two Cowboys mock drafts — here is the latest version.
#1: When in doubt, defense comes first
This one is pretty simple. The team can’t go on without adding young pieces on the defensive side of the football. Things are changing on both sides, but an infusion of talent can go a long way to a potential Super Bowl visit.
In the latest mock draft, I went LB, DT with the first two picks. No matter the position, it shouldn’t surprise folks if Dallas decides to beef up the core of the defense early and often.
Allow Tony Romo to thrive, but don’t reach
The talent on offense in the mid-rounds this year is undeniable. Both at running back and receiver, the 2015 class is full of talent that can help immediately.
Dallas knows they have to give their QB support in the playmaking area, but they can’t reach.
It might be tempting to take a receiver in the first round, but the talent might not make sense. We’ve seen the team “reach” before (Travis Frederick, anyone?) with success, but 2015 provides a different story.
Ultimately, don’t rule out a trade back if the team does, indeed want to go with a RB/WR with their first selection.
Stick to the plan — don’t make “that move”
Last year, it appears we came close to seeing Johnny Manziel take his talents to Dallas.
In this year’s Spring Classic, Jerry Jones has to sit back and make sure-fire calls. They’ll want to shy away from making the big splash picks to improve the team for the better in 2015.
Drafting Brett Hundley, no matter how far he falls on Day Two, is NOT the answer, Jerry.
The team knows what they must do to construct a successful class. If they stick with the master plan, thing should go smoothly.
