NFL Draft: Mid-Round Wide Receiver Steals

facebooktwitterreddit

Wide receivers hold some of the deepest talent yearly in the NFL Draft and this year holds true to that statement. There are some interesting names that won’t be called untill the 2nd or 3rd day of the class. Every year a receiver drafted in the late rounds comes in a makes a splash in the NFL from the start.

A few names that come to mind…

Antonio Brown (6th Round)

T.Y. Hilton (3rd Round)

Julian Edelman (7th Round)

Pierre Garcon (6th Round)

The talent in this class is deeper than most — well, maybe not comparable to 2014, but the statement holds true. Let’s take a look at some players who could make their respective team very happy by selecting them.

Titus Davis – Central Michigan

Davis is by far one of my favorite late round prospects in this draft class. Aside from going to the same school and wearing the same number as Antonio Brown at Central Michigan, both Davis and Brown posses similar abilities.

Davis has great quickness off the line of scrimmage and is able to go by any cornerback that lines up against him. The beautiful part of his game is that it looks as though it comes so natural to him, whether it’s route running, catching a pass or gaining yards after the catch. Davis has a great feel for the game.

Draft Projection: Round 4-5

Mario Alford – West Virginia

Alford can be a potential late-round gamebreaker for any team — he doesn’t need much room to take it to the house. Listed at 5’8 180 lbs, Alford is small in size but his speed is something special. At the West Virginia pro day Alford reportedly ran a 4.28 and when you watch him on tape you can see that speed unfold in front of your very eyes.

He also isn’t just a gimmick player, Alford is a legit receiver. At WVU he caught 65 passes to go along with 13 touchdowns alongside Kevin White. At his current draft stock, Alford could make a team very happy not only on offense but in the return game as well. He could be a serious threat in this league.

Round Projection: 6-7

Vince Mayle – Washington State

Mayle is an intriguing prospect. He exploded onto the scene this year with 106 catches and 1483 yards receiving. A former basketball player who posses great athleticism, Mayle possesses great leaping ability and is faster on the field than his 40 time would indicate (ran a 4.67 at the combine).

With only two years of FBS college football under his belt, Mayle still has plenty of room to grow as a wide receiver. He’s a big target who tracks the ball very well in the air. Not to mention, yards after the catch come natural with this guy.

Round Projection: 4-5
