NFL Trade: Does Kenny Stills to the Dolphins Make Sense?
By Joe Wedra
The Miami Dolphins have pulled off a move that will make our “NFL Trade Grade” piece question them just a bit. They added Kenny Stills from the New Orleans Saints; but that’s not the story to be told. Dannell Ellerbe and a 3rd round pick will heading to the Saints, according to a report.
Here’s the original tweet from the man that broke the details of the news, our friend Matt Miller of Bleacher Report:
Not a bad haul for a team that is looking to build their defense…
Saints Grade
Well, this seems pretty simple. No knock on Kenny Stills, but not many in the NFL media world believed he was worth as much as New Orleans got back.
Now owning five picks in the first three rounds, the Saints are in the running to do some big things — via trade up or simply waiting and grabbing value.
The re-build is underway for a New Orleans team that might just be in the running for Marcus Mariota.
Not a bad move at all by Mr. Loomis and Co. Give the Saints an A+.
Dolphins Grade
One has to be puzzled on the surface of this move. It’s hard to understand why Miami would give up a 3rd round pick (Ellerbe is another story) for a player that is anything but proven.
They must like Stills a good bit; there’s still concern as to whether his role will be enough to replace the 3rd round slot that was given up.
We’ll have to wait and see on this one. Where things intitially stand, it sure seems like the Saints came away as the big winners of this trade.
C- for Miami.
