Titans Grab Da’Norris Searcy from Buffalo: Good Move?
With the departure of Bernard Pollard, the Tennessee Titans needed an upgrade at the safety position. Tennessee may have found their remedy in former Buffalo Bills safety Da’Norris Searcy.
Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean broke the news early Tuesday afternoon:
Here’s a little background info on Searcy via our NFL Mocks staff write ups:
"Da’Norris Searcy is another talented safety to come out from the Buffalo Bills. He’s not the same caliber talent as Jairus Byrd, but he’s a good player in his own right. He excels against the run while also playing the pass well. The former North Carolina Tar Heel has exceeded expectations as a fourth round pick in 2011 and could be in for a nice payday this offseason. The upcoming draft class is weak at the safety position which will drive up the price for services for players of Searcy’s talent level."
Searcy will step right in an be an upgrade at safety for the Titans. The Titans finished 27th on defense in terms of yards per game (373) meaning upgrades will be needed at every level of the defense. Adding a talented safety like Searcy will help them in their run and pass defense.
Ian Rapoport broke the contract details this afternoon.
Grade: B+
Devin McCourty set the safety market when he received 9.5 million dollars per year from the New England Patriots. The Titans dolling out this contract to Searcy makes a lot of sense for both sides. Good player at a well deserving rate. Talented safeties don’t exactly grow on trees — adding Searcy at this price tag makes a lot of sense.
