Owen Daniels is Heading to the Denver Broncos: Grade!
By Joe Wedra
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Owen Daniels is heading to the Denver Broncos. The former Baltimore Ravens tight end is apparently switching AFC teams, moving with Peyton Manning to potentially contend for another Super Bowl.
Here was the original report from Schefter:
UPDATE: In other AFC West news, Schefter also tweeted this out:
There might be a few nice battles in 2015 between these two playmakers.
For Denver, this move was probably a wise one. Many had the team taking a tight end in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft in mock drafts, but that need can likely wait just a bit with the signing of Daniels.
Last season, the veteran was extremely productive for the Baltimore Ravens. While filling in for Dennis Pitta — who was down for the year with yet another hip injury — Daniels proved to be a “Joe Flacco favorite” for much of the season into the playoffs.
He’s no rookie to moving around and changing coaches and scenery, so he should have no problem filling in with Peyton Manning … not a bad veteran QB fit.
GRADE: A
No matter what the contract details are, this is a good move. Adding another “security blanket” for Peyton Manning is never a bad thing. Ultimately, Denver got a whole lot better by striking this deal.
Inking Daniels may prove to be very effective if the team can make a deep playoff run. Next January, watch out!
