NFL Trade Machine: Colin Kaepernick To Browns
By Erik Lambert
November 27, 2014; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (7) passes the football during the first quarter against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi
The Cleveland Browns know very well what the 2015 season has in store for them. At present, the best quarterback on their roster is Josh McCown, a 35-year old journeyman who was a flop as a starter last season in Tampa Bay. Johnny Manziel is still in rehab and now Brian Hoyer is expected to sign in New York or Houston.
Suffice to say unless Manziel makes a swift turnaround the Browns will either ride it out with McCown are plan to make another move at the position. Marcus Mariota is of course still in play, but recent rumors have brought up another name to ponder.
Colin Kaepernick is a name that surfaced on the NFL trade market recently when Jayson Braddock of local Houston radio indicated the San Francisco 49ers intended to shop the 27-year old quarterback. Since then GM Trent Baalke and sources close to the team have refuted such reports, but taking them at their word has proven hazardous in the past.

As moves go, this one could be favorable for the Browns. While Kaepernick isn’t the first choice for a lot of people, he’s still a highly talented quarterback who is entering the prime of his career. He has great mobility, a strong arm and holds a 4-2 record in the playoffs including two NFC championship and one Super Bowl appearance. That is way more than anything Cleveland has seen under center for decades.
Having two 1st round picks in the coming Draft makes them the team with the most ammunition to pursue a trade for Colin Kaepernick. What it comes down to is asking price and just how much they either believe Manziel will recover or how much they like Marcus Mariota.
If a deal is going to happen, it should happen soon.
