NFL Free Agency: Darrelle Revis, Jets Agree to Deal

According to multiple reports, the New York Jets have stolen cornerback Darrelle Revis from rival New England Patriots.

His agent confirmed the deal on Twitter on Tuesday night. Here is what ESPN’s Adam Schefter said earlier in the day:

Our own Charles McDonald (@NFLDraftWhiz) wrote this about Revis in the pre-free agency process about what he brings to a team.

“Darrelle Revis has been one of the top cornerbacks in the league over his career. He consistently shuts down top receivers on a week to week basis – a trait that is extremely valuable in today’s NFL. He was a key piece for the Patriots defense that helped New England secure a Super Bowl this past season. The Patriots will likely do whatever it takes to work out a new deal with him, as his 20 million dollar team option is a little too pricey for a non-quarterback. A player of Revis’ skill level is invaluable for any defensive scheme. Wherever Revis lands, he’ll haul in a hefty, hefty payday.”

Revis fills an obvious area of need for the Jets, who have money to spend, and will be a huge addition to their defense which is now led by new head coach Todd Bowles.

GRADE: A

For a team with money getting a player like Revis comes without a care of the cost. He is such a huge difference maker for your defense, and while it didn’t work out with the previous regime in New York, Revis is back for another shot at it and will be a huge pickup for this team.
