Davon House Reportedly Signed By Jaguars: Bad Move?
By Joe Wedra
The “rumors” that the Jacksonville Jaguars are trying to improve their secondary can be put away. With their reported signing of free agent CB Davon House on Tuesday morning, the Jaguars brass may be trying to pull rabbits out of hats to help their secondary thrive.
Here’s the report on the Jaguars recent move via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network:
As Rapoport notes, this deal won’t come cheap for Jacksonville. Despite the names of Revis and Cary Williams spotlighting this class, not many expected House to bring in significant money. This contract may come as a surprise to some, but Jacksonville had to address the need in the secondary.
With this deal (now being reported and confirmed by other media outlets), the Jaguars bolster their cornerback unit that is currently headlined by Dwayne Gratz and Demetrius McCray.
The team did draft Aaron Colvin in the fourth round last year, but they still seem set on bolstering a unit that will help them “win now”.
It’s no secret that Gus Bradley enjoys putting his emphasis on defense — the Jacksonville decision makers are catering to his needs before the new league year begins.
Expect House to be slotted in a major role immediately. Barring injury, he should be headlining this unit once Week One rolls around. He wasn’t a household name (see what I did there?) in Green Bay, but should do enough to see significant reps with the Jaguars.
Grade: C+
You have to love the upside, but does the money make sense here?
