Eagles Re-Sign Brandon Graham; Grade and Analysis
Monday afternoon the Eagles signed another defender, this time one of their own in defensive end Brandon Graham.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported the news on Monday:
Here’s a little background info on Graham’s career via our staff write ups:
"Brandon Graham entered the league as a first round pick in 2010. The former Michigan product looked like a bust when the Eagles switched to a 3-4 defense, but he adapted quickly and was able to generate a ton of pressure on the quarterback. He finished with six sacks in 2014, but that’s not indicative of how well he rushed the passer. According to Pro Football Focus, Graham finished the season with 39 quarterback pressures on 524 total snaps. To put that in perspective, Justin Houston totaled 56 quarterback pressures on 1,057 snaps. Graham is an extremely efficient, young pass rusher who stil has room to grow."
The Eagles retained their homegrown talent for a great price at 4 years, 26 million dollars. Graham could’ve gotten a lot more on the open market, but he chose to stay home — which is huge for the Eagles defense as they lost Trent Cole to free agency. With an increased role, Graham should easily be able to reach double digit sacks — provided he stays healthy.
Grade: A
Retaining good, homegrown talent for less than their market value will always get an “A” in my eyes. Graham has the potential to be one of the better known pass rushers in the league and the Eagles are getting him at a phenomenal rate. 6.5 million dollars per year for Graham — great move by Chip Kelly and staff.
