NFL Free Agency is getting off to a hot start, and the Chicago Bears are taking full advantage of its benefits. Late on Sunday night, the team reportedly agreed to a deal with former Baltimore Ravens DE Pernell McPhee, a move that is sure to bolster the Chicago front seven.

Here’s the initial report from Aaron Leming, the “new kid on the block” when it comes to breaking NFL news:

McPhee absolutely shined with the Ravens during the time that was on the field. Sometimes overshadowed by Terrell Suggs or Elvis Dumervil, McPhee wasn’t originally drafted to be a star in the making. He was supposed to be the “under the radar” solid backup who could fill in when needed.

Ravens fans quickly found out that wasn’t the case. He provided a sturdy presence on the defensive side of the football, and blended in well with the AFC North style of football.

GRADE: A

The Bears could afford to spend, and that’s what they’re clearly doing. Chicago means business. McPhee might not be the biggest name on the market, but he should be. During his time in Baltimore where he was allowed to shine, he did just that.

Here’s a perfect fit. McPhee should thrive with the Bears, and might be able to solidify himself as one of the best defenders in the NFC North in a few years to come.

There have been several “big moves”, but this one could be marked as one of the most impressive.
