Report: Byron Maxwell Will Sign with Eagles; Grade and Analysis
Byron Maxwell has reportedly decided that he will be taking his talents to the City of Brotherly Love. And just like that, it didn’t take long for, arguably, the top cornerback, on the free agent market, to choose his next team — the Philadelphia Eagles
Just moments ago, Jayson Braddock tweeted this out:
Here is a quick write up on Maxwell’s NFL career via NFL Mocks:
"Maxwell was inserted into the Seahawks secondary two seasons ago, after incumbent Brandon Browner was suspended. Maxwell played very well across from the Seahawks All-Pro corner, Richard Sherman. Due to Sherman’s pedigree, teams targeted Maxwell a lot and he held up very well over the course of the past two seasons. Maxwell is most likely going to be the highest paid cornerback in this year’s free agency class because he has a lot of qualities that NFL teams are looking for. He’s fairly young at just 27 years old, he’s long, measuring in at 6’1”, and he has a history of winning. During his two years being a starter in Seattle, Maxwell has won a Super Bowl and come within a yard of winning his second in as many years. ~Geoff Zlobinsky"
The Eagles were in major need of a major secondary remodeling. The Eagles pass defense has been near the bottom of the league for the past few years and along with that, the three of the Eagles’ four starters in their secondary are no longer on their roster. Maxwell will be the Eagles’ number one corner next season, being that he fits their defensive scheme perfectly, and he is a nice piece to the puzzle as the Eagles are far from done when it comes to fixing their secondary.
