Dolphins To Sign Ndamukong Suh: Grade and Analysis
By Erik Lambert
For the past week the rumors were growing in number that the Miami Dolphins had emerged as the clear front-runner to sign top NFL free agent Ndamukong Suh and now the new is finally official.
Suh was arguably the best overall player to hit the market in 2015. He was ranked as the third best defensive tackle in the league according to Pro Football Focus with a +27.5 rating. He also accomplished that playing 875 snaps, second most among interior defensive lineman. For the season he put up 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
The move is somewhat surprising from his end considering initial rumors were he wanted to either join a large media market like New York or Los Angeles or go to a contender like Seattle. Miami doesn’t exactly fit the billing of either. At the same time this is a huge victory for the Dolphins. By plugging Suh into the middle of their defense it will free up their two defensive ends in Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon to do what they do best, which is get to the quarterback. This is a move tied directly towards going after the Patriots and Tom Brady.
Grade: A
Is $114 million and $60 million guaranteed a lot of money? Better believe it. Is Ndamukong Suh worth it? Yes. The guy is a once-in-a-generation difference-maker who changes the complexion of a gameplan overnight. Few singular players can do that. The Miami Dolphins are paying big, but the payoff should be what they hope for.
