Just three more days until the real action begins but 2015 NFL free agency has already started to take shape. The “tampering” period in which teams are officially allowed to contact pending free agents has begun and the rumors are pouring in. Here is a rundown of the biggest ones so far.
Ndamukong Suh may take his talents to South Beach
Without question defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is the best defensive player set to hit the market on the 10th of March. His all-around ability is unmatched at his position and teams have been lining up for a chance to get him. While many have rumors of interest, one team has stood out as the favorite. That is the Miami Dolphins. According to several sources, many feel Suh heading to South Beach is a foregone conclusion.
If so, Tom Brady won’t be happy about that.
Philadelphia Eagles eyeing Super Bowl secondary men
Teams often love to pluck players from those that have experienced championship success in order to enhance the chances of their own. That seems like the strategy being employed by the Philadelphia Eagles in hopes of improving their defense. Word has long had it they are keying on Seahawks free agent corner Byron Maxwell, but now they apparently have an even bigger fish on their radar in Patriots safety Devin McCourty.
Raiders and Jaguars at auction for Randall Cobb
The Green Bay Packers are doing everything they can to keep star receiver Randall Cobb on their roster but it’s clear the two sides can’t agree on a price. General feelings are he can get more on the open market and the Packers are notorious for not spending big if forced to. Meanwhile Cobb has become the object of a quiet bidding war between the Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars, two teams with the most cap space to spend and also young quarterbacks in dire need of a weapon like Cobb.
San Diego Chargers zeroing in on Mike Iupati
For the first time in a good while the San Diego Chargers actually have some money to spend in NFL free agency if they wish. Signs certainly point that direction and their focus seems on finding a way to ensure the safety of quarterback Philip Rivers. The area in most need of an upgrade would be their interior offensive line, especially guard. So it can’t be too surprising the Bolts are expected to make a serious push for 49ers Pro Bowler Mike Iupati.
His run blocking ability would be huge for their ground attack and hopefully give Rivers more chances at play action in 2015.
