Former St.Louis Rams draft pick Michael Sam has officially been approved by the league to participate into the first ever NFL Veteran Combine, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The former SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year out of Missouri, will now get a chance to open eyes on a stage that might be the most important of his life. While at Missouri, Sam recorded 111 tackles and 18.5 sacks over this four year career.

After playing throughout the entire preseason, he became roster casualty on the last day of camp in favor of an undrafted free agent.

After spending a month out of the game, he signed onto the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. He was released after one month with the team and never played an official game.

Sam, who is currently a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”, was awarded with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2014 ESPY Awards. The award is given annually in honor of tennis player Arthur Ashe, who was diagnosed with AIDS after a blood transfusion, to a sports figure who demonstrates immense courage through personal struggle. Past recipients of the award include coach Jimmy Valvano, ESPN anchor Stuart Scott, and boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

The inaugural NFL Veteran Combine will take place on March 22 in Tempe, Arizona. Announced by the league in January of 2015, the purpose of the event is to give veteran free agents an opportunity to return to the game. There will be approximately 100 players in attendance, but not all of those individuals have been confirmed.
