Things haven’t looked this positive for the Oakland Raiders in a long time.  They have a young foundation in place on offense and defense, money to spend in free agency and another string of high picks in the draft.  The timing seems right for them to make a serious move towards playoff contention for the first time since 2002.

Here is an updated mock draft featuring players who could help get them over the hump.

1st ROUND

WR. West Virginia. Kevin White. 4. player. 28. Yes, the Randall Cobb rumors are noted here.  The Raiders have every reason to pursue him and some would argue he’d be enough of an upgrade at receiver.  The counter to that would be why not add Cobb and then finish it off with Kevin White?  Suddenly Derek Carr has two legitimate impact receivers, both with speed to take advantage of that big arm.  Al Davis would be doing jumping jacks in the war room if he were still alive to see it.

2nd ROUND

Jake Fisher. 35. player. 28. Age and free agency threaten to cause problems on the offensive line for Oakland.  They can’t afford to let that happen.  Adding more young talent to it, preferably at tackle is a smart course of action.  Jake Fisher was the standout at the combine and could go in the 1st round but there is a chance he slips to the second.  His size and athleticism make him an ideal long-term option at left tackle, another piece to the offensive puzzle.. OT. Oregon

3rd ROUND

Grady Jarrett. 68. player. 28. Maximizing Khalil Mack as a pass rusher is another priority for the Raiders.  A great way to do that is getting somebody up front who can bring a rush from the interior.  Grady Jarrett would fit that bill.  He’s shorter than ideal at 6’1″ but he used that as natural leverage coupled with great burst and power to force his way through gaps into the backfield.. DT. Clemson
