Nigel King: 2015 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Nigel King has the desired size NFL teams are looking for when they’re scouting receivers, measuring in at 6’3″ and 210 lbs. Most analysts were left scratching their heads by King’s decision to declare for the draft, having one more year of elegibility and lacking any standout years on his resumé. Read his 2015 NFL Draft outlook below.
Strengths: King’s biggest strength is his size. He uses all 6’3″ of his frame to go get the ball. While he doesn’t possess the best hands, King displayed during his collegiate career that he has the ability to track the ball in the air and make some acrobatic catches.
He is physical enough to beat press man and proved that he has the ability to find and settle into the soft spots in zone coverage.
King is an adequate run blocker, using his size to open up some room on the outside for his running back.
Weaknesses: King has scouts and analysts alike shaking their heads because of his decision to declare and not much of a resumé to present to NFL teams. While he had his best year in receiving yards (537) in 2014, he arguably may have had a better year in 2013, hauling in 33 passes (only 30 in 2014) and 4 touchdowns (only 1 in 2014).
King lacks any kind of explosion on the outside and lacks the athleticism NFL teams look for when drafting receivers. He’s not a great route runner and with his lack of speed, King really struggles to create separation.
He lacks versatility, not being able to return kicks or move all around the formation, making his chance of seeing the field next year seemingly nonexistent. King made a very poor decision to declare and could have really benefitted from another year in college to build more of a resumé for teams to consider.

Pro Comparison: Marvin McNutt
Draft Outlook: King has a very little chance of getting drafted. He may latch on with a team as a UDFA, but with his inability to gain consistent separation, King most likely will not be on a team’s opening day roster.
